Be Prepared

Hi,
I was watching the second season of Fargo, and in the very first episode Judge Mundt  played by Joan Cusack, a great actress who is under utilized, goes into a diner.  She sits at a table and orders.  Rye Gerhardt, played by Kieran Culkin, comes in sits opposite of her in a booth and starts trying to pressure her about a case.  She is having none of it.  She gets out a bottle of bug spray sets it on the table and basically tells him to get lost.  He does not take her seriously and is about to start again when she sprays him in the face.  He then shoots her.
WHAT WAS SHE THINKING?  First, Judge Mundt totally over reacted to being aggressively approached at the diner.  If Rye Gerhardt started to become physically violent (he did have a gun), did she honestly believe bug spray was going to cut it.  It deterred him for just a few moments.  She should have used mace.  Mace would have been effective much longer than the bug spray.
She, also, seemed to have no plan as to what she should do if she used the bug spray.  She just stood there and watched the effects of her handy work.  Did she not realize that having something nasty sprayed into his eyes would make him angry?
Just make sure that if you carry a weapon that it is an effective weapon, that you know how to use it and have practiced with it.  During an altercation is not when you want to find out that your protection is worthless and definitely not the time to figure out how to use it.  Also, have an exit strategy,  spray him or tase him (or her)  and then get the hell out of there.
Be Safe People,
Later.
