Diversion Safes

Hiding Valuables In Plain Sight Have you ever heard of a diversion safe? Never mind whether or not you've seen one - you wouldn't be able to tell if you had. That's the entire point and purpose of these ingenious devices: To hide valuables and sensitive items without attracting notice. Diversion safes (also known as fake or hidden safes) do their job by imitating something other than a conventional lockbox. Diversion safes can be created from virtually any product or home fitting, and many of the better ones are actually created directly from the real products they're intended to imitate. Examples include books, cleansers, aerosol sprays, canned food and drink, candles, and even permanent fixtures like power outlets. To create a diversion safe, the existing object is emptied or hollowed out, making space for your valuables. Weight is added so that the filled safe will even have the same heft as the object it's intended to imitate. You may already be sequestering your valuables in hard-to-reach places. There are tons of old favorites, like sock drawers, hat boxes, behind loose bricks or under loose floor boards. One of the problems with old favorites is that burglars are just as familiar with them as we are! What makes a diversion safe great is that it vastly expands the realm of possibilities a burglar has to contend with when he's hunting for your belongings. Wondering why making your valuables harder to find matters? It's because every burglary is a race. Criminals want to get in and out of your home as quickly as possible. Do you have any idea how long the average burglary lasts? It's less than eight minutes. Big armor-plated safes are designed to take advantage of this same fact - they're not completely impenetrable, they're just impossible to get into quickly. Hidden safes employ the same principle, making it far less likely for a thief to locate your goods in the little time he's going to spend searching for them. Burglars will prioritize their activities rather than spend more time searching a house top to bottom. This means that rooms which are traditionally unlikely to contain tempting targets receive little or no attention. This is why so many diversion safes are designed for placement in kitchens, pantries, and bathrooms. What burglar in a rush to make a big score is going to want to spend his time scrabbling through soup cans? Diversion safes are also useful for passing along important information, money, or valuables to friends and relatives without putting them at risk. Say you work in a big office where you're not sure that all of your coworkers are trustworthy. Your daughter is coming by to pick up school picture money, but you have to be at a client meeting. Would you feel comfortable leaving a 50 dollar bill in plain sight on your desk? You don't have to! Tuck that cash into a stapler safe that your daughter knows to look for. Whether you need incidental protection for handoffs like these or you're looking to give you most valuable belongings a permanent home, diversion safes are the way to go. It's no wonder that professional law enforcement officers recommend using them!
